I DON’T LIVE MY LIFE UNDER PRESSURE, I WON’T DRIVE A RANGE ROVER WHEN I STRUGGLE TO TAKE CARE OF MY MOTHER – AMERADO
Born Derrick Sarfo Kantanta, known on stage as Amerado, is a Ghanaian multi-talented rapper who always cooks something thrilling for fans. The rapper has made some wise revelations about living under pressure because of one’s celebrity status. He said a lot of fans expect many things from their celebrities, and sometimes things are not as smooth as they think. In an interview with MX24 TV, which was followed by Ghanasongs Graphics, Amerado reflected on an incident where his colleagues asked him more about his wealth and his style of living, thinking he wallowed in an abundance of wealth. “I remember after class, my colleagues came to me, and then they said they would want to have chitchat with me. They sat me down, and they did an interview. Like, ‘why is it that you have all the money? You are an artist, you have a car, and you are coming back (to school)?’ and I said, ‘I don’t have all the money. I want to seek all knowledge first,” Amerado affirmed.
He told them yes; he was very aware of the perception people have of artists as having a lot of money and being the ones who drive expensive cars as well as living lavishly. Amerado disclosed that he is more focused on developing himself than on following the unnecessary pressure of disguising himself to have all the riches. He indicated his readiness not to succumb to that pressure but to live within his means. “When you have celebrity status, people have a certain image of you. Fans want to see you in a Range Rover, but it all boils down to you and your story. People know me as that guy from Kumasi who has been struggling to make it to the top. You don’t expect me to drive a Range Rover while I can’t cater for my mother. I don’t let people’s perceptions get hold of me. I just live my life as a normal guy. When I have, I give. When I don’t, I seek,” Amerado clarified. Many celebrities have tried to impress the public by trying to live a fake life, and Amerado has counted himself out.
